i found this image to be very powerful, deeply human, soul stirring. if i may say thought, the title doesn't work for me, it actually threw my mind off of the work and into a state of confusion...which is strange because i love whimsy and humor and such (and gargoyles). i just felt the title to be a camoflage, a covering for something deep within you that you're not comfortable addressing yet. please know i'm not trying to push you in anyway, i just want to give you my raw/honest response here as you have 'advanced critique' selected. i think the photograph is wonderful, brilliant in fact. such an expressive face you have, with so much potential to capture and convey the human condition. you could have set up the viewer for touching something very deep inside themselves, something very memorable and even enlightening,... but the gargoyle idea derailed it from hitting the mark.
saturn, i certainly do not want to change anyone's expression in their art, be it 'gargoyle' or 'giraffe' or 'birth' or 'death'....that's always the gift held by the creator of the work, the artist themself. i'm just offering my little opinion, which is not important. but it is an act of kindness, an act of compassion you know...to take time from our day to assist each other however we can. all the best, a. Dear A,
Don't think that I don't feel really honoured by your comment. It is so rare on DA to get such refined and kind comments from someone you don't actually know personally.... so I consider these very important. As for the image: I am really glad that you felt touched by it, and I meant it to be expressive..... but had I given it another title I would have felt that it is somewhat cheating... as I was experimenting with water flowing out of my mouth and with different facial expressions. So this is acting, you know. And I did not want to deceive anyone saying that I felt deep emotions while capturing this. Thank you, again. If you have any suggestions concerning the title, it is welcome. Cheers, András (saturn) -- saturninus, hidden dr.agon |
