When the Greek gods wanted to punish conceited Hercules, they threw him among the claws of Omphale, a noble lady who kept him as a slave at her home. In order to humiliate him and show off her power, she forced him to wear women's clothes and do houseworks that were generally attributed to females. Hercules' disgraceful servitude was strangely intertwined with sexual submission, against which he could not revolt until the wrath of the gods has eventually calmed down.
